The Member of Parliament for Kimaanya-Kabonera Division in Masaka City, Dr. Abed Bwanika has challenged the National Unity Platform-NUP leadership to avail steps taken to ensure all party political prisoners are released.

This follows accusations from some NUP members over Bwanika’s opinion to engage the government to release political prisoners after all has failed since the 2021 general elections.

Bwanika says many of the families of those in prisons have lost hope and psychologically tortured after seeing no progress in rescuing their relatives.

He says soon he will be writing proposals to his NUP party leadership suggesting means of engaging and negotiating with the government without having gaps that they have surrendered to the National Resistance Movement -NRM government.

Bwanika also expects the party to positively respond to his letter by either agreeing to his proposals or suggesting means of ensuring that all political prisoners are released immediately.

On the issue of Rwanda-Uganda re-opening, Dr. Bwanika has called for respect on whatever was agreed upon by the two parties of Uganda and Rwanda diplomacy meeting between President Paul Kagama and Uganda’s land force commander Lt Gen Muhoozi Kahinarugaba a week ago.

Rwanda closed her borders with Uganda since 2019 now 3years following accusations of torturing and killing of Rwanda nations and also counter spying on each other.

Now with the reopening of the borders, Bwanika has called on both Nations to mainly respect the East African treaties especially on the common market and also those exclusive issues that were discussed upon.
