Buganda Kingdom has commenced her initiative of trading coffee throughout the region, Uganda and the globe under the company called Mwanyi Terimba Limited.

Mwanyi Terimba Limited was established and incorporated in June 2021as private coffee exportation company to complete the value chain of the kingdom’s coffee growing campaign dubbed “Emwanyi Terimba” which is spearheaded under Mengo’s Buganda Cultural and development Foundation- BUCADEF initiative.

The company is perceived to be rivaling the controversial Uganda Vinci Coffee Company Limited –UVCCL which is heavily supported by the government.

Joseph Kiwanuka, the Buganda Kingdom’s State Minister for Local Government says the company will be purchasing coffee beans from the farmers at a good price and export them to coffee markets around the globe.

He says that he has written to all County Chiefs informing them about the commencement of the company’s operations and directing them to mobilize coffee farmers to trade with Mwanyi Terimba Limited.

Recently, the Katikkiro of Buganda Charles Peter Mayiga engaged and formed a partnership with the Uganda Coffee Development Authority -UCDA to boost coffee growth in Buganda Region.

In this agreement, UCDA had to partner with BUCADEF to provide seedlings and technical knowledge of modern coffee farming while the Kingdom’s role was to mobilize the public to embrace coffee growing.

During the Kingdom’s Budgetary Reading in June this year, the Finance Minister for Buganda, Robert Waggwa Nsibirwa noted that 18 Model Coffee Farms are going to be started in the counties under the 2.2 billion shilling budget allocated for the agricultural sector.

Buganda Kingdom has so far set up coffee nurseries in Busiro, Buddu, Busujju, Butambala, Gomba, Kyaggwe, and Mawokota providing farmers with high-quality coffee seedlings at an affordable cost in those counties.
