The Buganda Kingdom’s Lukiiko has approved a budget totaling to 209.41billion shillings to facilitate different activities of the monarchy in the Financial Year 2023/2024.

 

The new budget under the theme, “Teri Kibongota” which is translated as ‘Be sober minded’ is Shs52bn higher than the current 2022/2023 financial year budget.

It was approved following its presentation by the Kingdom Minister of Finance Robert Waggwa Nsibirwa before members of the Lukiiko Chaired by the Deputy Speaker Ahmed Lwasa has been increased with shs52bn.

Nsibirwa the Kingdom’s priority in the coming financial year will focus on agriculture, service delivery, land activities, partnerships, education, health, tourism and cooperatives among others.

According to the allocations in the budget, investments have been located with shs61bn, Shs34bn for cooperatives, shs19bn Education, shs7.4bn for Health.

Meanwhile, the Kingdom has registered a surplus of shs17bn for the last financial year 2022/23 since it had budgeted to collect shs157bn but it collected shs174bn.

According to Nsibirwa this has been achieved through government payment of Shs9.5bn out of the 500bn that the central government has to pay to the kingdom, continued partnerships, exportation of coffee to other countries from the kingdoms, Company Emwanyi Terimba limited among others.
