The Bishop Emeritus of Lugazi Diocese Rt. Rev. Matthias Ssekamanya reminded Christians to be witnesses in the Church and the Community.

Bishop Ssekamanya has said that true Christians life is to live the life of sacraments like the Uganda martyrs strived for upto the time of their death but Christians today are full of indiscipline, involved in adultery, alcoholism, drugs and substance abuse and laziness which spoil the temple of the lord.

Bishop Ssekamanya said this during the Eucharistic Celebrations for the Silver Jubilee of St. Joseph Mukasa Balikudembe Kisoga Parish in Lugazi Diocese where he also confirmed 505 Children and graced 5 sets of married couples.

On the issue of economic development, he said the CARITAS Office in the Catholic Church was established to ensure social economic transformation of families and communities to live a meaningful life but in Lugazi diocese the office has not worked as expected saying he envies CARITAS Masaka “MADDO” that among other things it has started processing milk collected from families to add value and income.

Bishop Ssekamanya however hailed the current parish priest of the St. Joseph Balikuddembe Kisoga Fr. Ntesibe Gyaviira for the pastoral role in the area and encouraged the congregation to be the salt of the earth as parents and Christians.

At the same function they have fundraised for the building of the priests’ residence where the chief guest the speaker of parliament contributed Shs 10 million her representative Hon Esther Afoyochan from Zombo contributed Shs 1 million, members of parliament who are friends to area MP Hon Fred Kabanda for Mukono South and agencies like National Water and Uganda Electricity Transmission contributed Shs 55 million in Cash and pledges.

St. Joseph Mukasa Balikudembe Kisoga Parish was started in 1989 by when the Lugazi Diocese was still under Kampala Archdiocese and handed over to the missionaries of the Servite Fathers with the first Parish Priest was Fr. Benedict Biagio from Italy.

The Parish has got 17 catholic government aided Primary Schools 5 privately Catholic owned, 2 secondary schools private and Catholic and Kipayo Agricultural Technical College.

The Parish has got 32 sub parishes with at least 45,000 Catholic population that is mainly agricultural.
