The former FDC presidential candidate Dr. Kizza Besigye has warned those behind the looming amendment of article 102 in the constitution limiting presidential age limit not to cause the country another political injury.

While at his offices along Katonda Road, Besigye says the constitution has been changed a number of times including the scrapping of term limits in 2005 adding that Ugandans should not accept a referendum or parliament to oversee a review of the constitution that it will not only be an illegality but killing of the country’s democracy.

This comes after (FDC) announced a “protracted political battle” should government attempt to use its influence to amend Article 102 with the view of allowing President Museveni to seek another term as president after clocking 75 years before the next general election in 2021.

The Democratic Party President Norbert Mao in a press conference at City house also accused President Museveni of being behind the planned amendment of a close on the presidential age limit calling on Ugandans to stand with them against the intention.

Following such public discussions, the Speaker of Parliament Rebecca Kadaga has summoned the Attorney General and the Ministry of Justice and Constitutional Affairs to inform the house about the alleged debates on constitutional amendments.

Recently, the Justice and Constitutional Affairs Minister Kahinda Otafiire blamed a section of the public for directing their anger at him over the proposed Age limit bill, the work he claimed is not his responsibility but the law makers in parliament.
