The Nakaseke district Senior Staff Surveyor Geoffrey Tumusiime has been arrested on orders of the head of the Land Commission of Inquiry Lady Justice Catherine Bamugemereire for defending land grabbers in the district.

Bamugemereire directed police to detain Tumusiime for further investigations over the distribution of 1.5 square miles residue land alleged to be owned by Kawewetta army barracks under the supervision of Uganda Land Commission.

The said land is part of the surveyed 36squire miles land located at Kawewetta in Nakaseke district.

Appearing before the commission in Kampala, Tumisiime hid some names implicated in obtaining the 1.5sqm land include the Kawewetta barracks Commandant Brigadier Kazoora,  Nakaseke district secretary for production and natural resources Fred Lwabihinda, and former district speaker Enoch Nyongore among others.

Bamugemereire also accused Tumusiime of deliberately allocating 95 hectares of land on that public land to only 3 retired soldiers who claimed to be a group of 12 under the Veteran Association of Kinyogoga.

According to Bamugemereire, the land that Tumusiime considers to have rightful owners had in the same period been occupied by over 20 households.

However, Tumusiime denied allocating part of that land to a circle of connected people, his relatives and himself.

He was taken to Wandegeya Police Station where he will record a statement and provide any other relevant information that will assist the probe in its investigations.
