The Archbishop of Kampala His Grace Paul Ssemogerere has encouraged the Catholic Members of Parliament to spearhead the ongoing debate on the Anti-Homosexuality bill.

Early this month, MPs introduced legislation to Parliament that proposes tough new penalties for same-sex relations in a country where homosexuality is already illegal, defying criticism from human rights groups.

The Speaker of Parliament Annet Anita Among referred the Bill to a House committee for scrutiny, the first step in an accelerated process to pass the proposal into law.

In his homily during the Uganda Martyrs Kampala Archdiocese Pro-life Apostolate at the Catholic Shrine Namugongo on Saturday, Archbishop Ssemogerere prayed that Catholic MPs help in guiding on the enactment of the Anti-Homosexuality bill.

He further advised the youths to be vigilant on tricks used by same-sex relationship promoters to recruit young people into the vice like offering money, gifts and bursaries.

His Grace Ssemogerere warned the students from various catholic secondary schools and institutions of higher learning within Kampala Archdiocese that people behind the vices use persuasive words which are misleading like pro-choice, pro-right all intended to support abortions, contraceptives, homosexuality and all forms of vices that destroy human life.

The Pro-life Prayer day was graced by Amuru district woman member of parliament Lucy Akello who acknowledged Kampala Archdiocese for starting up Pro-life to safeguard the youth from bad cultures from the west.

She said prayers were highly needed to help MPs deliberate on the Anti-Homosexuality bill soberly because the law will either protect or ruin the country.
