The State Minister for Primary Education Joyce Moriku Kaducu has rallied Secondary Schools to embrace technology for effective implementation of the new Lower Secondary School Curriculum (NLSC).

NLSC was rolled out in February 2020 in a phased approach, starting with Senior One with the aim of improving the quality and relevance of secondary education and ensuring that post primary students are armed with skills needed in the workforce.

The minister says that some schools have declined to embrace technology yet the world has turned digital and the curriculum teaches skills for job creation which require digital learning.

Kaducu said this while officiating an event organized by Airtel Uganda in partnership with UNICEF at Kitende Secondary School in Wakiso district where about 100 schools have been announced to be connected to the internet.

In this program, Airtel Uganda has injected USD 50 million in kind to extend internet to 100 secondary schools in Uganda of which 50 of them will be connected this year Kitende SS being among the first beneficiaries.

Segun Ogunsanya the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Airtel Africa says this Airtel -UNICEF partnership is going to be rolled out in 13 countries in Africa and Uganda was selected among those.

In February 2023, Airtel Uganda decided to kick start a campaign of connecting 60 schools across the country to the Internet with the primary goal of increasing access to digital learning among underserved schools and as well improve the quality of education in the country.
