There was a bomb scare at Were Arcade along Bugadde road in Mayuge Town Council on Tuesday morning after an unidentified person abandoned two bags at the building.

The bags, one in red and the other in black colour sparked anxiety among locals because of the suspicion about their contents.

Those who had started daily business operations got scared abandoning them and others closing their businesses in fear for their dear life but others advised them to wait until the Police bomb squad arrived to assess the situation before resuming business.

The police bomb squad led by Mayuge district police commander, Agnes Aanyu, dashed to the scene and examined the bags but didn’t find any explosives.

According to Diana Nandawula, the Busoga East Police spokesperson, the bags contained bark cloths, calabashes, smoking pipes, and jewelry typically used during traditional rituals.

This raised suspicion that thieves might have stolen the items from unknown individuals and discarded them at the arcade when they realized they held no significant value to them.

Nandawula commended the residents for their vigilance and prompt action in notifying the police about the suspicious bags.

She emphasized that such collaborative efforts between communities and law enforcement are crucial in preventing and averting potential terror activities.
