A total of 89 people died in 431 road crashes that occurred during the course of last week according to the weekly traffic police report.

The report released today indicates that among the crashes registered, 74 were fatal that claimed 89 lives while 357 accidents were both minor and fatal accidents that left 352 people injured.

The report also shows that out of the 89 deaths, 33 were both riders and passengers on motorcycles.

Michael Kananura, the Traffic Police Spokesperson while releasing this report at police headquarters Naguru, attributed the leading cause of the road accidents to reckless overtaking and indiscipline among road users among others

Meanwhile, Kananura revealed that a total of over 400 drivers for drinking and driving in the ongoing Fika Salama Extra operations were issued with EPS tickets.

Relatedly, at least 991 motorcycles were impounded last week in the ongoing operations against cyclists without proper documents that allow them to drive on the roads.
