Police Marine has in detention a 50 year old Boat driver for allegedly causing a boat collusion that risked the lives of over 20 people.
According to police, the suspect identified as Isa Sesiya was arrested on Saturday morning of 19th August after a passenger boat which he was driving collided with a cargo boat on Lake Victoria.
Fred Enanga, the Police Spokesperson noted that the incident happened at around 4:30am after a passenger boat which was coming from Lolwe Island while carrying about 10 people and other items including crates of soda and beer driven by Sesiya collided with another cargo boat carrying various items which was heading to Jinja from Luffu Island and all the 20 passenger fell into water.
He says that the Incident happened at Lingire Island in Buvuma district and all the 20 passengers were rescued by fishermen who were fishing silver fish in the morning but he cautioned people against travelling in the night on waters.
However, Enanga has cautioned boat drivers against travelling in the night because it is illegal since it was stopped by the Police Marine Unit.
