Government has set to distribute over 1.4 million mosquito nets to more than 2.6million people in Kampala this weekend of February 24th to 25th.

Addressing the media in Kampala, the Program Manager for the National Malaria Control Program in the Ministry of Health, Dr. Daniel Okello says that the distribution exercise will be conducted by the Village Health Teams together with the Local leaders at the designated distribution points like schools, community grounds and places of worship.

According to him, over 357,000 nets to be distributed in Rubaga division, 314,000 nets in Kawempe, 313,000 nets in Nakawa, 165,000 netsĀ  in Kampala Central and also 350,000 nets in Makindye.

Of the 2.6 million people registered for mosquito nests in Kampala, over 658,000 from 131,000 households are in Rubaga division yet 571,000 residents from 121000 households in Nakawa. Over 645,000 people from137, 000 households are in Makindye, more than 554,000 persons from 116,000 households are in Kawempe and 213,000 residents in 45,700 homes to receive mosquito nets in Central Division.

Upon its completion, the campaign would have surpassed its target of 85 percent coverage in 115 districts where a total of over 19.1 million mosquito nets have been distributed to more than 38 million people.
