About 11 districts and municipalities are likely not to receive certificates of compliance with gender and equity requirements and the budgetary allocation for the Financial Year 2019/2020 over failing to achieve the Equal Opportunities Commission score.

This is in the Equal Opportunities Commission’s (EOC) released first of its kind Assessment report on Compliance of Local Government budget framework papers with Gender and Equity requirements of the Financial Year 2019/2020.

According to the report, those districts and municipalities that scored below the average include Ntungamo, Ibanda, Koboko, Bukedea, Pakwach, Namutumba, Kisoro, Kirenga, Bugiri, Sorot and Kitagwenda.

The report shows that of the assessed 172 Local governments budget frame work papers, only 65 districts and municipalities attained the 50 percent gender and equity requirement score.

Those districts and municipalities in line of receiving the certificate of compliance with gender and equity requirements include, Rwampara, Nebbi, Mbarara, Entebbe MC, Buvuma, Bushenyi, Sheema, Alebtong, Iganga and Kapelebyong.

Sylvia Muwebwa Ntambi, the Chairperson of Equal Opportunities Commission says that the assessment that was conducted in May 2019 focused on six issues like contribution to the Second National Development Plan, responsiveness of mediaul term plans to gender and equity among others.
