The Criminal Investigations Directorate – CID has arrested ten suspects in the double murder of social worker Maria Nagirinya who was a Project Manager at CIDI and Boda-boda rider, Ronald Kitayimbwa .

Police Spokesperson Fred Enanga has said the suspects whose particulars are concealed are under interrogation and that police have obtained clues linking some of them to the crime.

Enanga said CID director Assistant Inspector General of Police – AIGP Grace Akullo and her team have reconstructed the scene of crimes from Lungujja where they were kidnapped from  on Wednesday night to Nama Sub County at Nakitutuli where their bodies were discovered on Thursday, a distance of about 40 kilometres.

They are also following a report opened by Grace Kalembe, a friend to Nagirinya at Katwe seeking swift police response but Katwe police officers took it lightly until she was found killed alongside Kitayimbwa.

It is on this point that Uganda Police Force has released strict regulations against errant officers who are reluctant on duty especially on kidnaps and murders.

The Police Chief Political Commissar Asan Kasingye says that the council of the force met and decided that all officers who switch off their phones and those who absent themselves from their duties will be charged.

This follows reports accusing officers in charge of Lungujja  community, Busega, Kibumbiro police Nateete and Katwe police for failing to respond to the case of kidnapped and later murders of Project Manager at CIDI, Maria Nagirinya and Ronald Kitayimbwa .

He further says that the Professional standard unit has arleady been ordered to take up the matter of gross neglect that results to the death of the two people.

Kasingye says that through their ICT department, they are to ensure that emergency lines of 999 and 112 are active plus the established Anti Kidnap toll free lines that include 0800199990, 0800199991 and 0800199992.

However, the Police Director for ICT Commissioner Felix Baryamwisaki says that they are working with Uganda Communication Commission to configure and control Telecom Company customer care calls which interrupt the emergency lines of police on top of installing CCTV cameras at all police stations
