Pearl Bank Loan Portfolio Surpasses Shs1 Trillion

Pearl Bank Executive Director for Operations, Martin Mugisha

Pearl Bank has announced that its loan portfolio has surpassed one trillion shillings, rising from Shs749 billion in December 2025 and registering growth of about one-third in just eight months.

Agriculture and agro-industrialisation account for the largest share of the bank’s lending, at about 35 percent, with increased financing also going to small and medium enterprises, trade, logistics and construction.

Pearl Bank Executive Director for Operations, Martin Mugisha, says the bank has developed affordable credit products aimed at supporting farmers and small businesses to expand their operations.

Mugisha says partnerships with government and financial institutions, including the Bank of Uganda’s Agricultural Credit Facility, Aceli Africa, aBi Finance and the French Development Agency (AFD), have helped lower the cost of funds and enable the bank to share lending risks.

Pearl Bank says it plans to further expand agricultural financing while increasing credit to the tourism, construction and minerals sectors as it seeks to support economic growth.

The bank, formerly known as PostBank Uganda, is wholly owned by the Government of Uganda and currently operates 59 branches and more than 8,000 agents across the country.
