The Archbishop of Kampala, His Grace Paul Ssemogerere, has officially launched and blessed this year’s Peace Month, observed throughout September, with a call to all Ugandans to become ambassadors of justice and peace.

The launch took place at Our Lady of Good Counsel Gayaza Parish and was organised by the Justice and Peace Department of the Archdiocese of Kampala. The month-long observance calls for active prayer, social reconciliation, and a renewed personal commitment to building a just and nonviolent society.

The event began with a general cleaning exercise at Gayaza Market, where Archbishop Ssemogerere led a team of participants in cleaning the market. He used the opportunity to encourage market vendors to embrace love, unity, and good relationships with one another as a way of promoting harmony and creating a clean and healthy working environment.

Archbishop Ssemogerere re-emphasised the importance of fostering good working relationships, noting that Uganda and the world at large have suffered from numerous injustices, many of which have disproportionately affected ordinary people.

He called upon leaders and those in positions of authority to prioritise justice, dialogue, and mediation in resolving conflicts, stressing that peace is a God-given gift that should be enjoyed by all people.

Speaking on behalf of the Justice and Peace Commission of the Archdiocese of Kampala, its Director, Rev. Fr. Emmanuel Sitakange, said this year’s observance challenges everyone to build relationships founded on peace and mutual respect.

He said the theme for this year’s Peace Month is “Peace Be with You All: Towards Unarmed and Disarming Peace,” urging Ugandans to work together to promote a culture of nonviolence, reconciliation, and peaceful coexistence.

The Peace Month activities are expected to provide an opportunity for individuals, communities, and institutions to reflect on the importance of justice and peace and to take practical steps towards building a more peaceful and just society.
