The Chairperson of the NRM Electoral Commission, Dr. Tanga Odoi, has cautioned candidates vying for the NRM flag in the Adjumani West parliamentary by-election against sectarianism ahead of the party primaries scheduled for Thursday, September 3, 2026.

Six candidates have been nominated by the NRM Electoral Commission to contest for the party flag following the death of Gen. Moses Ali, the long-serving Member of Parliament for the constituency.

Speaking to the press at the NRM Electoral Commission offices in Kampala, Dr. Odoi said the party’s electoral process began today with the updating of the NRM voters’ register.

The exercise is expected to continue tomorrow with Barazas to be held in all 99 villages of Adjumani West.

Odoi said new members seeking to be added to the register will be required to provide proof that they are residents of Adjumani West and not neighbouring Adjumani East.

He also warned candidates and their supporters against interfering with the NRM voters’ register, saying the party will ensure that the process is conducted transparently and in accordance with the established guidelines.

According to the roadmap issued by the Electoral Commission Chairperson, Justice Simon Byabakama, the Adjumani West parliamentary by-election is scheduled for September 17, 2026.

The nomination of candidates is scheduled for September 7 and 8, followed by the parliamentary campaign period ahead of polling day.
