Airtel Money, NSSF Renew Partnership to Boost Voluntary Social Security Savings

Airtel Money, NSSF Renew Partnership

Airtel Money and the National Social Security Fund (NSSF) have renewed their partnership to promote voluntary social security savings among Ugandans, particularly those working in the informal and emerging sectors.

The partnership will enable Ugandans to enrol for NSSF’s SmartLife Flexi and make contributions conveniently through Airtel Money, making long-term saving more accessible regardless of how or when they earn.

As of August 28, 2026, SmartLife Flexi had accumulated Shs199.3 billion in assets, with more than 130,000 Ugandans enrolled, less than two years after its launch.

Addressing journalists at the Golden Tulip Hotel in Kampala during the launch, Airtel Money Managing Director Japhet Aritho, who was represented by Airtel Money Head of Operations Hope Okudu, said the renewed partnership will make it easier for traders, boda boda riders, farmers, entrepreneurs and other self-employed Ugandans to save for their future using digital platforms they already use.

Okudu said the initiative is intended to bridge the gap in social security coverage by providing convenient and flexible savings options for people whose incomes may not be regular.

Meanwhile, NSSF Deputy Managing Director Gerald Paul Kasaato said SmartLife Flexi is designed to extend social security coverage to Ugandans in both the formal and informal sectors, as well as Ugandans living and working in the diaspora.

He said the product gives more Ugandans an opportunity to build long-term financial security through flexible contributions.

Ugandans can start saving with as little as Shs500, while each contribution attracts transaction charges starting from Shs150.
