The Deputy Attorney General, Jackson Kafuuzi Karugaba, has outlined the facilitation package for officials who will supervise the upcoming Local Council elections.
While updating Parliament on preparations for the Local Council I (LC I), Local Council II (LC II), and Local Council III (LC III) Women Council elections, Kafuuzi said Sub-county election officials will receive Shs546,433 per month for two months, while Parish officials will earn Shs288,125 per month over the same period.
He added that Village officials will be paid Shs50,000 for the five-day voter registration exercise and Shs30,000 for the three-day display of the voters’ register.
According to Kafuuzi, Presiding Officers will receive Shs30,000 each on polling day, while Polling Assistants and Election Orderly Officers will each be paid Shs20,000.
The Deputy Attorney General also informed Parliament that elections for LC I Chairpersons will be conducted under the multiparty political system and urged political parties to prepare for the exercise.
His statement followed a directive by the Speaker of Parliament requiring the Attorney General to brief the House on the government’s state of preparedness for the long-awaited Local Council elections.
