Parliament to Resume Consideration of Pending 11th Parliament Business

Deputy Speaker of Parliament Thomas Tayebwa

Deputy Speaker of Parliament Thomas Tayebwa has informed Members of Parliament that the House will begin processing business that lapsed at the end of the 11th Parliament.

In his communication to the House, Tayebwa said the Business Committee had agreed to reinstate several items of unfinished business, with the Auditor General’s reports among the first matters to be brought back for consideration.

He explained that the Parliamentary Commissioners will next week formally re-table the pending business, noting that Standing Committees currently have no scheduled work until December, providing an opportunity to clear the backlog.

Tayebwa said the 11th Parliament scrutinized only about 100 of the more than 500 Auditor General’s reports that had been submitted, leaving nearly 400 reports pending.

He also revealed that the Legacy Report, which assesses the performance of the 11th Parliament, will be tabled once it is adopted by the Parliamentary Commission.

According to Tayebwa, the Rules of Procedure require the report to be presented within the first seven sittings of a new Parliament. However, he attributed the delay to the fact that the Parliamentary Commission had not yet convened.
