The Katikkiro of Buganda, Charles Peter Mayiga, has urged Ssaza Chiefs to encourage residents to elect Local Council I (LCI) chairpersons based on their leadership qualities rather than political party affiliation.
Speaking during the annual engagement with Ssaza Chiefs at Bulange, Mengo, Mayiga said voters should choose leaders who can effectively serve their communities, regardless of their political party, religion or tribe.
He emphasized that it is not the responsibility of Ssaza Chiefs to determine who residents should vote for, urging them instead to remain impartial and welcome all people within their respective jurisdictions.
His remarks come ahead of the LCI elections scheduled for July 28, as the registration of residents into the village voters’ register continues.
The Katikkiro also encouraged Ssaza Chiefs to embrace technology in their work, saying it improves efficiency and enhances service delivery.
He dismissed claims that technology is too complex or time-consuming to use, urging local leaders to adopt digital tools in the execution of their duties.
Meanwhile, the Kabaka’s representative in Butambala County, Hajji Sulaiman Magala, welcomed the Katikkiro’s guidance and pledged to implement it, particularly in the lead-up to the LCI elections.
