Police Hunt Woman Who Allegedly Abandoned Toddler Found Dead at Kiwamirembe Restaurant

Kampala Metropolitan Deputy Police Spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire

Police are hunting for an unidentified woman who allegedly abandoned a two-year-old boy at a restaurant within Kiwamirembe Catholic Church before disappearing, leaving the child later found dead.

Preliminary police findings suggest the child may have been murdered, after a postmortem examination indicated marks on the neck consistent with possible strangulation.

According to the Deputy Spokesperson for Kampala Metropolitan Police, Luke Owoyesigyire, the woman arrived carrying the child wrapped in cloth and placed him on a chair inside a restaurant at the church premises. She reportedly ordered a meal, then told staff she was going to withdraw money via mobile money but never returned.

Owoyesigyire said the child was later discovered dead, prompting investigators to open a suspected murder case.

The body was taken to Mulago City Mortuary for a postmortem examination as detectives work to establish the child’s identity and trace the suspect.

Police say efforts are ongoing to locate the woman and clarify the circumstances surrounding the incident.
