Police Arrest Suspect Over Alleged Child Trafficking as Separate Probe Opens into School Drowning Incident

Deputy Spokesperson for Kampala Metropolitan Police, Luke Owoyesigyire

Police have arrested a man identified as Mubarak Tayewa, also known as Scott, in connection with a suspected case of aggravated child trafficking after he allegedly failed to provide satisfactory information about the parents or legal guardians of nine children found in his custody.

The children, aged between three and 16 years, were rescued from a house in Kona Village, Wakiso District, during a police operation.

According to the Deputy Spokesperson for Kampala Metropolitan Police, Luke Owoyesigyire, the children have since been placed under the care of the Wakiso District Probation Office as efforts continue to trace their families and establish the circumstances under which they were being kept.

In a separate incident, Jinja Road Police have opened investigations into the death of 10-year-old George Nsawa, a special needs pupil at Hill Preparatory School in Naguru, who drowned during a swimming lesson.

Owoyesigyire said the incident occurred on July 3, and detectives are now examining the circumstances surrounding the tragedy, including possible negligence by those responsible for supervising the pupils at the time.
