Archbishop Augustine Kasujja has called on Catholics to strengthen their faith, love, and reverence for the Holy Eucharist, saying a deeper understanding of the sacrament is essential for fostering unity and genuine love among believers.
He made the appeal during Holy Mass at St. John Baptist Mapeera Nabulagala Parish, where Catholics gathered to commemorate the first Eucharistic celebration in Uganda, held on 25 June 1879.
The celebration also marked a major milestone for 275 children who received their First Holy Communion, a significant step in their spiritual journey within the Catholic Church.
In his homily, Archbishop Kasujja expressed concern over rising cases of human rights violations in the country, noting that such incidents reflect a weakened understanding of the Eucharist and its call for respect of human dignity.
He emphasized that true devotion to the Eucharist should inspire believers to promote peace, uphold human dignity, and love one another in line with Christ’s teachings.
The Archbishop further urged Christians to reflect on their lives and renew their commitment to Eucharistic values, particularly compassion, justice, and unity, as a foundation for building a more caring and harmonious society.
