The Papal Nuncio, Archbishop Augustine Kasujja, has called on Ugandans to remain steadfast in their faith despite growing social and political challenges facing the country.
He made the appeal while delivering his homily at St. Pius X Masajja Parish during the finals of the annual Catechism Quiz, Akabinkano Ka Katikisimu, an evangelization initiative organized by Radio Sapientia to promote Catholic teaching.
Archbishop Kasujja said many Ugandans are currently living in fear due to a range of troubling circumstances, including threatening statements from some leaders, reported cases of abductions, alleged wrongful charges against citizens, land-grabbing incidents, and public concern over disease outbreaks such as Ebola.
Despite these challenges, he urged believers not to lose hope, stressing that those who place their trust in God and seek divine guidance would be able to overcome adversity. He encouraged Christians to deepen their prayer life and remain committed to spiritual discipline as a source of strength in difficult times.
The Archbishop also emphasized the importance of active participation in the sacraments, expressing concern that some believers have neglected key aspects of the Catholic faith, particularly the Sacrament of Penance. He said reconciliation remains central to spiritual renewal and moral growth.
The annual Akabinkano Ka Katikisimu Catechism Quiz brings together Catholic faithful of all ages from different parishes and schools to strengthen knowledge of the faith and promote evangelization.
This year’s competition featured three categories. In the adult category, Paul Mugerwa from Naddangira Parish won a brand-new motorcycle. In the secondary school category, Angela Jacinta Gwolinda from St. Joseph’s Centenary SSS Ndeeba received a piece of land, while Francis Xavier Tamale from St. Joseph Primary Nabbingo won the pupils’ category and also received a piece of land.
The event was sponsored by Steel and Tube Industries, Mark Investments (importers of Honda motorcycles in Uganda), Banjeru Properties Uganda Ltd, among others.
