Excitement filled St. Pius X Parish, Masajja, as the grand finale of Radio Sapientia’s catechism quiz competition known as Akabbinkano Ka Katekismu came to a colourful conclusion on Sunday, marking the end of weeks of intense competition that began on March 15, 2026, at St. Kizito Kibiri Parish.
The final stage brought together 15 contestants across three categories; primary, secondary, and adult each category fielding five finalists after a rigorous series of biblical, doctrinal, and Church history examinations. The competition tested knowledge of Scripture, liturgy, Uganda Martyrs history, and wider Catholic teachings.
The day began with a solemn Mass presided over by Most Rev. Augustine Kasujja, Apostolic Nuncio Emeritus to Belgium and Luxembourg, who urged Ugandans to deepen their faith through prayer and trust in God, especially in times of difficulty. He encouraged believers to rely on God’s mercy as a source of strength and resilience.
Throughout the contest, participants were evaluated by a panel of judges from Radio Sapientia, including Gideon Peter Ssebulime, Lilian Nannyondo, and Jimmy Jacobs Lusembo.
In the primary category, Francis Xavier Tamale of St. Joseph Primary School Nabbingo emerged winner with 18 points, receiving a 50-by-100-foot plot of land. He was followed by Joseph Mukiibi of St. Kizito Primary School Kibiri (14 points), who won a refrigerator, while Olivia Nakacwa of Mother’s Love Primary School placed third with 12 points and received a 32-inch television. Simon Peter Sekigudde took fourth place and won a deep fryer, while Innocent Ssemambo came fifth and received a mattress.
In the secondary category, Angela Jacinta Gwolinda of St. Joseph Centenary S.S. Ndeeba topped with 22 points and also won a plot of land. Edward Ddamulira of St. Charles Lwanga Kibiri came second with 20 points and received a 600-litre smart water tank from Steel & Tube Industries. Christopher Kayanja (Emmanuel College Kazo) finished third and won a bicycle, Amos Kyemba came fourth with a 32-inch television, and Maurice Kakooza placed fifth, receiving a mattress.
In the adult category, Paul Mugerwa of Naddangira Parish emerged champion with 44 points and won a brand-new Honda motorcycle from Honda by Markh. Fred Sekatte of Bwaise came second with 30 points and received a 1,000-litre smart water tank, while Joseph Balikuddembe placed third with a television. Richard Ssewaya and Richard Muwonge completed the top five, both receiving mattresses.
Sponsors also played a key role in supporting the competition. Honda by Markh provided the grand prize motorcycle, while Steel & Tube Industries contributed water tanks among other prizes, alongside other partners supporting faith-based youth development.
Organizers described the quiz as a growing platform for strengthening biblical knowledge, nurturing faith, and uniting parishes and schools through religious education. Winners expressed gratitude to Radio Sapientia for promoting catechetical learning and thanked teachers, parents, and parish communities for their support.
The event ended in celebration, with renewed commitment to faith-based learning and evangelization across participating parishes and schools.
