Police Hunt Two Suspects After Foiled Armed Robbery in Nakawa, Recover Rifle

Police are pursuing two armed robbery suspects who escaped after officers foiled an attempted robbery in Ssemwogerere Zone, Nakawa Division, Kampala, in the early hours of Monday morning.

According to the Kampala Metropolitan Police, three armed men intercepted a businessman and his wife along Mukasa Road at around 12:50 a.m., ordering them to lie down before robbing the man of his mobile phone and wallet.

Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson Racheal Kawala said the robbery was interrupted when police motorcycle patrol officers arrived at the scene, prompting the suspects to flee.

She added that the suspects abandoned a bag containing suspected stolen items and a firearm as they escaped.

Officers immediately gave chase, during which one unidentified male suspect, believed to be about 25 years old, was neutralized.

Kawala confirmed that police recovered an SAR rifle, a bayonet, four suspected stolen smartphones, and other exhibits from the scene.

Investigations into the incident are ongoing as police continue to search for the remaining suspects.
