Makindye Division Council Approves Ssebatoma as Deputy Mayor Amid Political Tensions

Makindye Division councillors in Kampala have confirmed Allan Ssebatoma as the new Deputy Mayor.

Makindye Division councillors in Kampala have confirmed Allan Ssebatoma as the new Deputy Mayor.

The council sitting was chaired by Speaker Tugaineyo John, during which Mayor Yasin Omar unveiled his new executive committee.

The appointed team includes Abdul Sserunjogi Ssamadi (National Unity Platform leaning) as Finance Secretary, Moreen Kyomugisha of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) as Gender Secretary, and independent councillor Waswa Hassan as Education Secretary.

The officials were sworn in before Chief Magistrate Opio Charles Kangira, after which councillors proceeded to elect six committee chairpersons.

However, tensions emerged when the National Unity Platform (NUP) declined to submit members to the Rules Committee and later walked out during the speeches of newly elected chairpersons.

Speaker Tugaineyo urged the party to submit its representatives before the next sitting.

Makindye Town Clerk Thomas Sserunjogi commended councillors for their cooperation and encouraged the use of proper channels in resolving internal disputes.
