Kampala Metropolitan Police, in coordination with other security agencies and local stakeholders, has arrested 53 suspects during a two-day security operation conducted between 4 and 5 June 2026 in Mukono District, Kira Municipality, and Nakawa Division.
According to Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy Spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire, the operation targeted crime hotspots linked to theft, burglary, robbery, gambling, and illicit drug use.
In Kigombya, Mukono Central Division, two suspects were arrested after they were allegedly found in possession of a roll of stolen electric cable wire.
In Namuyenje, Nakisunga Sub-county, 11 suspects were detained during coordinated raids on areas identified as centres of criminal activity.
In Kira Municipality, police carried out operations in Kireka A, B, and C zones, including Obojja Ghetto and Kireka Farmers Market, where 30 suspects were arrested for alleged involvement in the sale and consumption of narcotic substances. Several exhibits were recovered to support ongoing investigations.
Meanwhile, in Nakawa Division, 10 adult male suspects were arrested during separate operations targeting illicit substance abuse and related offences.
Owoyesigyire confirmed that all suspects remain in custody as investigations continue ahead of prosecution.
