The Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) has announced a nationwide recruitment exercise targeting a wide range of professionals, including teachers, medical doctors, pilots, musicians, and lawyers.
According to Acting UPDF Spokesperson Colonel Chris Magezi, the recruitment will run from 10 June to 1 August 2026 and will be conducted across the country. Applicants must be between 18 and 28 years of age.
Magezi noted that some of the recruits will be deployed to the Mbuya National Referral Hospital, which is expected to begin operations soon.
He further explained that the recruitment process will be conducted online, with applications open from 10 to 24 June. Shortlisted candidates will have their names published on district notice boards, City Halls, and the official UPDF website.
A circular issued by UPDF Chief of Staff Lt Gen Jack Bakasumba, and circulated through the Office of the President to districts and local governments, indicates that about 10,200 personnel will be recruited.
This includes UCE and UACE leavers, as well as professionals with science backgrounds.
The exercise will also target specialists such as ICT professionals with master’s degrees, degrees, and diplomas; engineers and logistics experts; aviation professionals and meteorologists; health workers; specialist doctors; medical officers; physicists; and other allied health professionals. Others sought include practicing lawyers, teachers, sports personnel, artists, social scientists, and psychologists.
Magezi emphasized that applicants must be Ugandan citizens and are required to present recommendation letters from LC I, LC II, and LC III chairpersons, as well as GISO and ISO officials. They must also possess valid academic documents relevant to their professional fields.
Authorities have encouraged eligible Ugandans, particularly young women, to take part in the exercise, while strictly adhering to the stated requirements.
