Orientation for Uganda’s 12th Parliament Officially Begins

Clerk to Parliament Adolf Mwesige

The three-day orientation programme for Members of Uganda’s 12th Parliament has officially commenced at Parliament’s South Parking Lot, marking the start of preparations aimed at equipping legislators for their new responsibilities.

Organised at the beginning of every parliamentary term, the orientation is designed to provide newly elected Members of Parliament with the knowledge and skills required to effectively carry out their duties in the House.

The programme focuses on familiarising legislators with Parliament’s institutional culture, legislative framework and organisational structure, while also introducing them to the systems and procedures that guide parliamentary business.

Speaking during the opening session, Clerk to Parliament Adolf Mwesige urged Members to actively participate in the sessions to strengthen their understanding of parliamentary operations and effectively execute their constitutional mandate.

The orientation is also expected to provide MPs with practical guidance on their core responsibilities, including lawmaking, representation and oversight, as the 12th Parliament begins its work.
