The President of the Uganda People’s Congress, Jimmy Akena, has challenged the newly elected Speaker of Parliament, Jacob Oboth Oboth, and his deputy, Thomas Tayebwa, to preside over a people-centred 12th Parliament focused on addressing the needs of citizens.
Akena made the remarks while addressing journalists at the party headquarters at Uganda House along Kampala Road today, where he emphasized the need for the new parliamentary leadership to prioritize national interests over personal or political agendas.
He noted that Ugandans expect a Parliament that is responsive, transparent and committed to improving service delivery across the country.
Akena urged the Speaker and his deputy to ensure that debates and decisions in the House reflect the aspirations of ordinary citizens.
He stressed that the success of the 12th Parliament will depend on its ability to address key challenges affecting Ugandans, including unemployment, healthcare and education.
