President Yoweri Museveni has urged Uganda’s judiciary to focus on practical solutions to address critical challenges in the justice system.

Speaking at the opening of the 27th Annual Judges’ Conference at Speke Resort Munyonyo, Vice President Jessica Alupo, delivering the President’s message, emphasized the need to reduce case backlogs, improve turnaround times, and strengthen public confidence in judicial processes.

The conference, themed “Judicial Wellness: A Tool for Effective Case Management,” underscores the importance of the well-being of judicial officers in ensuring a robust and efficient justice system.

In his message, President Museveni stressed that justice must be accessible, timely, impartial, and respectful.

He lauded outgoing Chief Justice Alfonse Owiny-Dollo for his contributions, particularly in introducing Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR), enhancing case management, and leveraging technology—tools he noted as vital for improving performance and restoring public trust.

President Museveni also congratulated the new Chief Justice, Dr. Flavian Zeija, on his appointment, urging the judiciary to build on existing reforms to enhance efficiency, integrity, and public confidence as it enters a new phase.
