Members of the parliamentary legal committee have opposed the proposal by electoral commission to ban crowds at the time of counting votes.

This was after the chairman of the commission Justice Simon Byabakama who was appearing before the committee stated that voting will be conducted normally following the SOPs but after voting, the counting of votes will be done only in the presence of candidates’ agents.

Byabakama said that the reviewed road map only seeks to ban massive crowds as opposed to the traditional campaigning system.

However this was highly contested by MPs challenging the law EC is using to ban campaigning gatherings.

The Committee Chairman Jacob Oboth Oboth said they are to receive views from other stakeholders, like civil society organizations, contestants preferably at presidential level and political parts represented in parliament.
