The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Jane Frances Abodo, has pledged to firmly prosecute electoral offenders ahead of Uganda’s 2026 general elections, regardless of their political affiliation.
Speaking at the opening of the 2025 Annual Prosecutors Symposium in Kampala, Abodo assured participants that her office will take action against anyone who violates electoral laws, whether from the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) or opposition parties like the National Unity Platform (NUP), provided there is credible evidence.
She encouraged prosecutors to carry out their duties with courage and integrity, stating that she will support their lawful actions when based on evidence.
However, Abodo warned that those who act outside the law will be held personally accountable.
Her remarks came in response to Dutch Ambassador to Uganda, Her Excellency Fredrieck Quispel, who also addressed the symposium.
The Ambassador called for impartial justice during the election period and emphasized the crucial role prosecutors’ play in maintaining public trust in justice institutions.
