The Opposition National Unity Platform (NUP) has asserted its exclusive ownership of the slogan “People Power, Our Power,” dismissing those attempting to claim it as mere opportunists.
This comes after a new political group, the People Power Front Party (PPF), was launched on Thursday at Mestil Hotel in Nsambya, Kampala.
The new party’s branding including the red beret, hand fist symbol, and red-and-black colors closely resembles those of NUP.
Addressing journalists at the party headquarters in Makerere Kavule, NUP Secretary General David Lewis Rubongoya questioned the emergence of unknown political groups seeking to disrupt the push for political change as the country approaches general elections.
Rubongoya accused some of these groups of being stage-managed by government operatives to derail the opposition.
However, he acknowledged that some individuals behind PPF are disgruntled former NUP members who were expelled due to misconduct and are now allegedly colluding with the government to destabilize opposition efforts.
Despite these developments, Rubongoya urged NUP supporters and all Ugandans advocating for change to stay focused on achieving the party’s objectives.
