Kabaka Mutebi’s Birthday Run: Political Symbols, Slogans banned to ensure order

Kabaka Mutebi’s Birthday Run

Organizers of the Kabaka Mutebi Birthday Run in Buddu County have prohibited participants from wearing political party colors, insignias, or chanting political slogans to prevent potential chaos.

The marathon, set for Sunday, will bring together Buganda Kingdom loyalists as part of the celebrations marking Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi’s 70th birthday.

This year’s run is dedicated to the fight against HIV/AIDS, with a focus on mobilizing men to take a leading role in protecting women from the epidemic.

Jude Muleke, the Kabaka’s representative in Buddu County, known culturally as Ppokino, emphasized that the event must remain free of political influences.

He noted that with the country entering a tense political season, there are concerns that some politicians may attempt to exploit the marathon for campaign purposes, thus diverting it from its intended mission.

To uphold the integrity of the event, strict measures have been put in place.

Posters, attire, and other materials bearing political symbols or slogans will not be allowed.

Participants who defy this directive will not be permitted to take part in the run.

Andrew Lugemwa, Chairperson of the Local Organizing Committee, added that beyond restricting political symbols, they have also barred organized groups that typically accompany politicians.

Security agencies have been engaged to ensure a peaceful and well-organized event, free from any disruptions.
