The High Court Criminal Division in Kampala has examined video evidence linked to the treason case against former presidential candidate Rtd. Col. Dr. Kiiza Besigye and his co-accused.

The latest footage presented before court is said to show a fourth meeting held at an airport in Athens, Greece, with prosecution witness Andrew Wilson, alias Orlando, explaining what he says transpired during the meeting.

Wilson told court that the video was recorded using a camera attached to a wristwatch.

According to the witness, the beginning of the footage shows a man he identified as Dr. Besigye, allegedly with a bandage on his right arm. Wilson explained that Besigye had previously been shot with a rubber bullet and had undergone an operation, which he said accounted for the condition of the arm.

Wilson further testified that the Athens meeting took place after Besigye had attended another meeting organised by South Africans in Athens. He said it was during this period that Besigye learned about the arrest of an alleged agent, identified as Wakayima, while going through Wilson’s phone in Geneva.

The witness said the phone on which the messages regarding the arrest had been received was later handed over to Ugandan investigators for analysis and subsequently returned to him.

Wilson also told court that 36 students had been arrested at a camp in Kisumu, where he alleged they were being trained in the use of hand grenades. He said he initially believed his role had ended following their arrest, but was later contacted by Dr. Besigye and asked to remain in contact.

The witness further testified that Frank Buliira, who participated in the recent presidential elections, had contacted him seeking information about the whereabouts of Wakayima after Wakayima introduced the two.

Wilson claimed that Dr. Besigye and Wakayima were among the few people who knew about the alleged training and said he had expected Besigye to be arrested alongside the others who were apprehended in Kisumu.

The proceedings are continuing before Justice Emmanuel Baguma, with the court still considering the video evidence presented by the prosecution.
