The opposition People’s Front for Freedom (PFF) has condemned the heavy security deployment and traffic diversions in Kampala’s central business district ahead of President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni’s swearing-in ceremony.
The criticism follows the announcement by the Uganda Police Force of major traffic diversions across the city to facilitate the smooth movement of guests attending the inauguration ceremony scheduled for May 12, 2026, at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds.
Speaking to the media at the party headquarters on Katonga Road in Kampala, PFF spokesperson Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda described the heightened security measures as cowardly and economically damaging, arguing that many residents would be unable to access their workplaces.
Ssemujju also criticized the restrictions as a violation of human rights and called on authorities to respect citizens’ freedoms while allowing normal business operations to continue uninterrupted.
He further urged Ugandans to stand up against what he described as growing impunity in the country.
