First Group of Ugandan Pilgrims Arrives Safely in Saudi Arabia for Hijja

Hijja pilgrimage programme to Mecca, Saudi Arabia, fully sponsored by President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.

The first group of 35 Ugandan Muslim pilgrims travelling for this year’s Hijja pilgrimage has safely arrived in Medina, Saudi Arabia.

A second group of 35 pilgrims is expected to depart Uganda on May 12, 2026, while the final group will travel on May 17, 2026, for the sacred journey to Mecca.

The first delegation, travelling through Anwaary Travel, was led by Ahmad Sulaiman Kyeyune.

The second group will travel through Tawakal Travels.

Both Umrah and Hajj travel agencies were contracted by the State House to facilitate travel and pilgrimage services for the pilgrims.

A total of 150 Muslims have benefited from this year’s Hijja pilgrimage programme to Mecca, Saudi Arabia, fully sponsored by President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.

The cost of the pilgrimage is estimated at an average of Shs21 million per pilgrim, translating to more than Shs3 billion (approximately USD 5,500 per person) for all 150 beneficiaries.
