ASP Clive Nsiima Granted Bail After Viral Assault Incident

Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Clive Nsiima

The Kampala City Hall Grade One Magistrate’s Court has today (Thursday) granted bail to Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Clive Nsiima, who recently made headlines after a viral video captured him slapping a female shop attendant at a fuel station in Kyanja.

According to sources, the altercation reportedly occurred after the attendant reminded the officer to pay for items worth 30,000 Ugandan shillings.

Earlier this week, Nsiima appeared before the same court, where he was formally charged with assault and malicious damage to property.

During the bail hearing, State Attorney Mercy Yamangusho opposed Nsiima’s release, arguing that his behavior was highly inappropriate for someone entrusted with upholding the law and maintaining public order.

Despite the prosecution’s objection, presiding Magistrate Nicholas Aisu granted the accused officer cash bail set at 1 million shillings. Each of Nsiima’s sureties was bonded at 5 million shillings, non-cash.

In his ruling, Magistrate Aisu acknowledged the widespread public concern sparked by the incident but emphasized that, in accordance with Ugandan law, every accused person is presumed innocent until proven guilty.

ASP Nsiima pleaded not guilty to all charges.

The case has been adjourned to November 6, 2025, for the next hearing.
