Sheikh Muhammad Yunus Kamoga, leader of the Tabliq Muslim community, has criticized Uganda’s current political environment, saying it falls short of the principles of true democracy.
Speaking to the media after Eid al-Adha prayers at Nakivubo Blue Playground in Kampala, Sheikh Kamoga drew attention to the country’s electoral process.
Using an analogy, he noted that despite significant financial investments in elections, the outcomes are often contested, calling into question the legitimacy of the process.
He stressed the need for substantial reforms to strengthen democracy in Uganda.
Sheikh Kamoga also advised Muslim youth to avoid involvement in violence, warning that such actions often lead to arrest and imprisonment.
During the same event, Sheikh Abdul Nasri Kateregga, Secretary of Fatwa at Jamia Tabliq Dawah Salafiyyah, addressed the congregation.
He called on security agencies to respect citizens’ rights, particularly during general elections, urging them to end practices that undermine civil liberties.
