The opposition People’s Front for Freedom (PFF) has called on Justice Emmanuel Baguma to dismiss the treason case against Dr. Kizza Besigye and his co-accused, arguing that the prosecution has not presented sufficient evidence to substantiate the charges.

The call comes after the conclusion of cross-examination of the prosecution’s first witness, Andrew Wilson, alias Orlando, in the ongoing treason trial.

Wilson has been giving evidence before Justice Baguma since the trial opened, with his testimony covering alleged meetings and discussions involving Besigye and his co-accused. Monitor+1

Speaking at the PFF’s weekly press conference at the party headquarters along Katonga Road in Kampala, Deputy Secretary General Harold Kaija said the evidence presented during cross-examination had not established, in the party’s view, that Besigye and his co-accused planned to kill President Yoweri Museveni.

Kaija described the case as politically motivated and alleged that President Museveni was using the proceedings to target a major opposition figure.

These are PFF’s allegations, while the prosecution has presented evidence alleging that Besigye and his co-accused were involved in a plan to overthrow the Government by force. The accused have denied the allegations. Monitor+1

Wilson, the prosecution’s key witness, has faced extensive cross-examination in recent weeks.

During the proceedings, he acknowledged that he had worked for the Ugandan Government while gathering information on Besigye.

He also testified about recordings and alleged meetings that form part of the prosecution’s case. Monitor

Kaija also called for the arrest of security personnel whom he accused of providing misleading information to the public in relation to the case.

Meanwhile, PFF Chairman for Buganda Region Lulume Bayiga accused security forces of acting in a partisan manner while carrying out their duties.

Bayiga alleged that PFF members were blocked from delivering a petition to the Office of the Chief Justice, while supporters of the Patriotic League of Uganda were allowed to conduct activities at the Turkish Embassy under security protection on Friday, September 19, 2026.

The allegations come amid heightened security restrictions around the PFF headquarters and Katonga Road.

Uganda Radio Network reported earlier this month that police and other security personnel blocked access to the party offices ahead of a planned march to the Judiciary headquarters. ugandaradionetwork.net
