The Parliamentary Appointments Committee has vetted presidential nominees to the Public Service Commission and the Financial Intelligence Authority as part of the approval process for the two institutions.
The committee, chaired by Speaker Jacob Oboth Oboth, scrutinised the nominees and their suitability for the respective positions.
Among those nominated to the Public Service Commission are Vincent Seruma, who has been proposed as Chairperson, and Jane Sanyu Mpagi, proposed as Deputy Chairperson.
Other nominees to the Commission are Dr. Anthony Taabu Munyaho, Dr. Hanifah Naamala Sengendo, Florence Mugonya Malinga, Dr. Opio Alex Achol, Kenneth Namboga Madete, Patrick Ngolobe and Mauda Norah Mugisha, who have been proposed as members.
Speaking to the media shortly after the vetting, Seruma said the committee raised concerns about the effectiveness of District Service Commissions, corruption in public service recruitment and the need for the Public Service Commission to fully execute its constitutional mandate.
He said, if approved, the Commission would seek to reduce the time taken to conclude disciplinary cases involving public officers while also strengthening its advisory role to Government.
Seruma also said the concerns raised during the vetting had highlighted the need for stronger systems to improve accountability and efficiency within Uganda’s public service.
The nominees will now await the outcome of Parliament’s approval process before they can take up their respective positions.
