The Minister in charge of Disaster Preparedness, Relief and Refugees, Sam Engola, has inspected an Office of the Prime Minister building in Terego District that was burnt down during a protest by South Sudanese refugees.

Engola condemned what he described as barbaric behaviour by refugees who participated in the protest that culminated in the burning of the refugee offices and a police station on August 26, 2026.

The building, valued at more than 700 million shillings, housed offices of the Refugee Department under the Office of the Prime Minister in Terego District. It was reduced to ashes by protesters at Imvepi Refugee Settlement.

Jolly Kebirungi, the Refugee Desk Officer for the Arua Regional Offices, explained the circumstances that led the refugees to take the law into their own hands.

According to Kebirungi, the protesters overpowered the police before setting the refugee offices and the police station ablaze.
