The Electoral Commission has confirmed that preparations are complete for the National Women’s Committee elections scheduled for tomorrow, September 4, at Kyambogo College School.
Electoral Commission Chairperson Justice Simon Byabakama has urged delegates to ensure they are duly registered voters before converging at the polling venue.
The elections will mark the final stage in the electoral programme for constituting women’s councils from the village level to the national level.
The National Women’s Executive Committee will be elected through an electoral college comprising 146 chairpersons of City and District Women Councils, along with one woman with a disability nominated by the National Council for Persons with Disabilities. All delegates are expected to arrive today.
Candidates will be nominated for four positions: Chairperson, Vice Chairperson, Publicity Secretary and Secretary for Finance.
Justice Byabakama said campaigns will begin tomorrow at 8:00 a.m. and end at midday, after which voting will be conducted by secret ballot.
The Electoral Commission says the exercise is expected to conclude the process of establishing women’s councils and leadership structures at all levels.
