Police are holding three suspects in connection with the alleged publication of fake news and unlawful obtaining or disclosure of personal data on social media platforms.
The suspects have been identified as Ronald Mayiga, Swaibu Kakaire, also known as One One UG, and Mark Mugoya.
According to police, the alleged offences were committed in July 2026 and involved activities carried out on social media platforms.
Police said the three suspects are currently in custody and will be produced before court to face charges in accordance with the law.
The arrests come amid growing concerns over the misuse of social media platforms, particularly the circulation of false information and the violation of individuals’ privacy and personal data.
Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson, SP Racheal Kawala, has urged members of the public to use social media responsibly and respect the privacy and personal data of others.
She warned social media users against engaging in activities that violate the law, reminding them that misuse of digital platforms can attract criminal liability.
