Police in Busoga East have arrested two spare parts dealers over allegations of stealing motorcycles and dismantling them for sale as spare parts in Iganga District.
The suspects have been identified as Arafat Musenze, a spare parts dealer from Lwerera Village in Nawanyingi Sub-county, and 57-year-old Joshua Kuzegera of Bukoyo Village in Bulamagi Sub-county.
The two suspects are currently being held at Iganga Central Police Station as investigations continue, and police say they will be taken to court for prosecution.
Police recovered four motorcycles suspected to have been stolen. Three of them were identified by registration numbers UDL 920P, UEC 298T and UDH 668H, while the fourth, a blue motorcycle, had no number plate.
Among the recovered items were 22 front shock absorbers, 23 sprocket seats, 13 engine housings, eight air cleaner boxes, seven carburetors and six engine blocks.
Police also recovered number plate UDR 173Z and a bag containing four motorcycle logbooks, which were allegedly found in the possession of the suspects.
Busoga East Police Spokesperson Michael Kasadha said the arrests followed complaints from boda boda riders who accused the suspects of stealing their motorcycles before dismantling them into smaller components for sale as spare parts.
Kasadha said police are continuing with investigations to establish the full extent of the alleged motorcycle theft network and identify other people who may be involved.
