The Member of Parliament for Bubulo East County and senior National Resistance Movement (NRM) figure, Hon. John Musila, has welcomed the reported release of former Speaker of Parliament Anita Annet Among from house arrest, describing the development as a positive and timely move.
Social media reports circulating earlier today indicated that President Yoweri Museveni had directed the Chief of Defence Forces, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, to release Among from house arrest, potentially ending months of restrictions as authorities investigated allegations surrounding the management of Parliament.
Among was reportedly placed under house arrest in mid-May 2026 following security raids at her residences in Nakasero, Kigo and Bukedea that began around May 16.
Speaking to Radio Sapientia, Musila said Among’s contribution to the NRM made it difficult to imagine that she would remain under detention for a prolonged period, similar to other senior political and military figures who have faced incarceration in the past, including the late Gen. Moses Ali and Lt. Gen. Henry Tumukunde.
Musila nevertheless welcomed the development, saying it was good that Among had regained her freedom.
He noted that imprisonment and other challenges are among the risks associated with political leadership, urging young people aspiring to join public service to understand that political careers can come with both rewards and significant personal sacrifices.
