There was drama at Nkoma Senior Secondary School after police raided the institution following a tip-off that teachers were conducting lessons during the ongoing second-term holiday.

The operation was ordered by Jimmy Nambiro, who heads the Education Desk at State House, after receiving information that the school was defying Ministry of Education guidelines prohibiting teaching during the holiday.

When police arrived at the school, some teachers and students reportedly fled the premises, with teachers jumping through windows and over the school fence to escape.

The operation was led by the Officer in Charge of Operations at Mbale Central Police Station, ASP John Bosco Kashumba.

Police officers addressed the students who remained at the school and ordered them to return home, warning them not to come back for lessons during the holiday period.

Speaking to the media after the operation, Nambiro expressed concern over what he described as defiance by the administration of Nkoma Senior Secondary School, noting that the institution is a government school and is expected to comply with government policies.

Nambiro said Education Minister John Chrysostom Muyingo had directed schools across the country not to conduct lessons during the holiday, urging learners to use the break to rest and spend time helping their parents.

He further directed police to trace the teachers who fled the school and have them arrested to face the law.

The second-term holiday officially runs from August 21 to September 14, 2026.
